Among undergraduate physical education programs, Ohio Wesleyan's is clearly one of the most diverse and modern. While the teacher concentration program continues to be a strong part of the curricula, faculty members have added innovative programs that provide students with specific areas of concentration. This structure offers options and preferences in preparing the student for a future in a diverse work environment. Students in the program can prepare for careers in teaching, sport medicine, sport management, and other sport study areas. The department also offers a physical education/coaching minor for the student with a major in another department.
"A sound mind in a sound body." This ancient maxim helps to explain why young men and women elect a major or minor in physical education at Ohio Wesleyan. In classical times, training the body was deemed as important as developing the mind. It's taken nearly 2,500 years to get back to this basic truth. America today is concerned about fitness. The health benefits are clear enough. The psychological payoff is that a sound body helps create a sound mind.
Ohio Wesleyan's department of physical education has responded to this changing perception by diversifying its program and offering four areas of concentration. |
